Mycoplasma/ myco

Symptoms and Understanding of the Myco infection

The symptoms of the upper respiratory disease, which involve the nasal passages and middle ears, can include sneezing, sniffling, occasional squinting, rough hair coat, and porphyrin (Red) staining around the eyes and nose, gasping or cardio attacks .
If the inner ear becomes involved, head tilt (wry neck) and rolling may occur if this happens and your pet is in pain and destress i advise you kindly put your pet to rest.

As the disease progresses, it will enter the lungs by bacterial infections, viral infections, the cold or unclean envoirment or old age , symptoms may include lethargy, rough hair coat, hunched posture, porphyrin staining, chattering, weight loss, labored breathing, and eventually death. If the mycoplasmal infection is not complicated by any other bacterial infection or viral infection, the terminal stage of the disease can last for weeks ,months or years. Be aware that most petshops and some un educated breeders do breed myco sickened rats due to lack of care, no understanding and or profit, i highly advise anyone wanting a pet rat/s please visit the place you want to get rats from and be mindfull of symptoms of illness, look at the state of house/shop, look and listen for weezing and sneezing in all the rats, check the enviorment, food being fed and water supply. make sure male and females are being put in different
cages! ( myco unless in final stages can only be seen with a rat aged 4 to 6 month and older this is when it start to show)

                             Things to Provent Myco
Good, breeding only from mycoplasma resistant rats, and early treatment are the only things we can do to fight this deadly disease at this time.extremely important to maintain a healthy cage environment to keep stress to down, such as making sure the cage is clean at all times and cleaning it on a regluar basis with a very mild anticacterial solution, making sure fresh food and water are available at all times and providing entertainment and shelter.   Someday, maybe lucky enough to have a drug effective vaccine. We can only hope so until that then. In the meantime, just try to treat rats in the best way possible, and only breed from the most resistant rats possible.
